Flooring can be waterproof, and one type is even appropriate for flood-prone basements. Vinyl and laminate flooring can be installed anywhere in the home while ceramic is most appropriate for ground floor installation. Bob's Carpet Mart is a waterproof flooring retailer in Tampa Bay, Florida, that offers a variety of each of these three-floor coverings and much more. You can also take advantage of our shop at home service by calling, texting, or using our online chat service.

Ceramic

Glazed ceramic, most often found in solid colors, is one kind of waterproof flooring. Porcelain, a type of ceramic, is the most durable tile material available. The inherently waterproof flooring comes in many patterns and colors as well as surface finishes that imitate wood grains and natural stone. Ceramic flooring can tolerate water for long periods without sustaining damage. Porcelain tiles can be installed outdoors in mild climates.

Vinyl

Sheet vinyl and multi-ply luxury vinyl flooring that has one of two core materials, wood plastic composite or stone plastic composite, are waterproof. Luxury vinyl planks and tiles won't swell if exposed to water for a long period so floors won't buckle or warp. Typically, both styles of luxury vinyl are installed as floating floors. Therefore, it is conceivable that a floor could be taken apart for flooded basement clean-up and then reinstalled.

Laminate

Laminate has a wood chip base that is topped by an image layer and a transparent wear layer. While standard laminate does not repel water, laminate marked 'waterproof' can repel water for a specific amount of time. The manufacturer's instructions for clean-up should be followed closely since flooring can be damaged if exposed to water exceeds the given time frame. Typically, water must be removed within one day.
